Down Jackets
Cold cosmopolitan people have long sported mountaineering down jackets as cold-weather commuting wear, giving the person a Michelin Man look like a modicum of street crud. However recently, fashion and technical innovation among the puffie jackets advanced at, well, a glacial pace.
Fortunately, companies like The North Face, Marmot, Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, Arcteryx Jackets, Burton Snowboards and others are perfecting both function and form these days, producing a new fleet of streetwise, cold-cheating, fluff filled wraps that will carry you from the Swiss Alps to China. Among the many noteworthy details: precipitation-proof fabric that shields goose down from the wet; welded insulation compartments; and some refreshingly hip designs. At long last, breaking out the big down coat won’t land you in worst dressed category.
