Human Food thats Good for Dogs
Some “human” foods are good for dogs and can be much healthier than the boxed treats you buy in the grocery store! This is just a small list of foods that most dogs can eat. They should not eat these often and a dog won’t necessarily get all the nutrients they need if eaten exclusively. Always check with your veterinarian if you are interested in feeding your dog some home cookin’! Just remember that like people, some dogs cannot eat certain foods. We are all unique and tolerate things differently.
Any meat that you feed your dog should be boneless and it’s best if the skin is removed. Raw meat is not a good idea because of the small risk of food poisoning and parasites. Skinless, boneless chicken breast, turkey breast and boneless fish that’s cooked shouldn’t cause any harm. It’s best to put them through a food processor before giving them to your dog. Dogs have shorter digestive tracts than humans and cannot digest most vegetables whole or in large chunks. Tiny, diced up Carrots, Green Beans, Lettuce, Potatoes, and Yams can be given to your dog. Don’t feed your dog grain products in large quanities or too often. Rice and bread are safe for your pet but only in small amounts. Many dairy products tend to be high in fat and may cause some digestive problems for your dog. If anything, plain non fat yogurt would be the least harmful dairy product you could feed them. Just know that too much dairy intake can cause pancreatitis, their digestive systems weren’t built like ours.

In the wild cats and dogs don’t sit around a fire and wait for their prey to finish ‘well done’; they kill it and eat it because their digestive systems can handle it. Food that is cooked takes longer to digest for them because it isn’t naturally the best way for them to eat it. If you can get organic meat for a dog without the preservatives and whatever vitamins are injected into it is fair game for them. You have to remember just because a dog is your best friend emotionally and physically doesn’t mean they are connected to you internally (simply meaning our digestive systems and immune systems aren’t completely similar).
And with the necessary portions a dog can go without Dog food for their lives. A friend of mine feeds her puppy nothing but a square, well-planned human food diet. He is the perfect image of a healthy dog. Also if you pay attention to sports like dog sledding those Huskies may each be unique with their own special preferences but they aren’t served a big bowl of dog food. They get raw meat and veggies in soup. If you recall the movie Snow Dogs they were fed “Slump”.
