Google’s URL Removal Tool

Using Google’s URL removal tool I successfully removed 1 URL from its listings. The second URL is giving me some problems…

I need to remove 2 pages from this website, and somehow try to get Google to refresh or remove the descriptions it has for each of the pages.

The first page was easy to remove, I deleted it from wordpress then used Google’s URL removal tool. One week later it was gone and deleted out of Google’s database otherwise known as a DB. From here I will refer to Google as ” G ” and a database as ” DB.”

Ok -1 page down, 1 to go.

Next I needed to remove this page - http://www.greggaylord.com/memo/2006/05/page/2/

The page has been deleted for a couple months now, but G is still listing it and displaying text from the content of the old page. After I deleted the page I went back to the URL removal tool that Google provides and then tried to remove the URL from G’s DB. Shoots, no luck. I tried again, and again and it didn’t work. G kept telling me that the page was still there. You could click on the link http://www.greggaylord.com/memo/2006/05/page/2/ - then you could see the page was removed from this website but G was still listing a description from the page that was about 4 months old. Old and stale. All of the other search engines dropped the pages a long time ago. Just shows has fast MSN and Yahoo update vs. Google who seems to update much less often then the competitors. For those who don’t know, MSNBC, dogpile, ask jeeves or ask, Live, Teoma, Altavista etc… are all powered by either G, Yahoo or MSN. So once you remove a URL from the major 3, you’re covering the broad spectrum of all search engines or SE’s.

After hoping the listing would be removed naturually by Google I’ve given up hope.

Time to switch to plan B. Give the page a new topic. As you can now see the old page about the controversial topic is now all about down jackets. I’m anticipating that G will update the description of this page in about a week and at the longest by the end of October.
