The Best Restaurants in Portland

What is the best restaurant? Chances are we don’t have the same favorite. Who does? Pick any two people and they’re probably not going to have the same answer. Everybody’s different, and if you’re like me, my list of the best restaurants in Portland changes as I find new places to feast with my friends and family. Finding a new restaurant is kind of like spiritual growth, you have to want to grow. You have to want to go and experience new tastes, chefs, and establishments.

Lately, I’ve seen a whole new (to me) breed of foodies that share their good and bad experiences on popular websites like Yelp.com, Bar Fly and Urban Spoon. I’m amazed how many people come home and write a review after they dine out. It’s not the same lot from CitySearch either. Yelpers are hard-core. What’s even more impressive, not that it takes much but it blows me away how good, in depth and eloquent most of the reviewers are. Especially on Yelp. Geesh.

If you haven’t seen Yelp yet, search for any restaurant in Portland and you’ll probably see it positioned #2 next to the restaurants main website. For some restuarant’s that’s good, for others it could really tarnish their online reputation. You can’t please everyone and if you’re a restaurant owner you probably hate the web and all the reviews that go on; because it can’t be stopped. Bad news, bad food, bad service and BAD reviews spread like wildfire online and even worse is that information can last forever. It’s hard to combat if you even try. But IMO it helps breed quality among restuarant owners. The good ones stand out. They stand out by offering great food, polite servers and a comfortable place to dine. As I mentioned, for me a comfortable place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner changes often. This is my current list of the best restaurants in Portland…
