The Relaunch of US Outdoor
Recently myself along with many others launched a new version of USOUTDOOR.com
The primary objective of US Outdoor’s new website launched in October 2006, was to provide greater ease in navigation, simplify searching product selection and comparison, and to facilitate greater ease at the time of purchasing.

Subcategories as well as brand categories are listed on every page, making it easier to navigate towards a specific item, as compared to the old website, where one had to access products solely through main category tabs. For example, if the ski department is accessed, quick and easy navigation is provided through subcategories such as skis, ski bindings, ski boots, etc.. Under each sub category, one’s selection can be refined through more detailed choices, such as men’s skis, women’s telemark, kids’ alpine boots, etc.. Main category tabs on the new website also include drop down menus, expediting access to subcategories and brands.
Scroll over thumbnail images display color selections in the larger image, so that you can get an accurate idea of what your chosen item looks like in that specific color. Prior to the new website, one had to click on product images, making it more difficult to compare colors side by side, and was more time consuming.
The current website has page numbers towards the top right hand side of the page, making it more difficult to navigate pages, as you have to scroll back up to the top each time to view page numbers. This doesn’t prove to be as convenient as prior page number settings at the bottom of each page.
Another great new feature is a highly visible search field, previously smaller and harder to locate. A Gear Shop tab above the search field provides quicker navigation to products, for times when you are in search of specific gear, such as camping gear, but aren’t quite sure what items or brands you are searching for.
Once you are ready for checkout, the checkout process on the current website simplifies purchasing items. Previously one had to register on the website, where they were then directed to different web pages in order to complete their purchase. Now it is quick and easy to buy products, with all of the necessary mailing information fields on one page.
